Melrose Vineyards

Our Vineyards

Exceptional wines begin with exceptional vines.

Flavorful wines are the mission here at Melrose Vineyards.  Our eccentric focus on flavor sounds simple, yet it is surprisingly complex- achieving optimal flavor demands total control every step of the way.

Melrose vines are located on a total of 150 acres in the Umpqua Valley near the town of Roseburg, Oregon. Our vineyards thrive on a two mile stretch of bank on the South Umpqua River.

The soil composition of the land that the vines are planted on is made up of 10 feet of fertile top soil residing on top of a river rock based strata.  Through extensive research of this land composition, we decided to select devigorating phylloxera resistant rootstocks to match with the high fertility soil with the 10 different varietal's that are grown.

Melrose Vineyards was developed with the Scott Henry Trellis design.  This trellis system has been proven and designed to produce high quality, balanced fruit within highly fertile soils.  This is a great trellis design for our vineyard.

The Design is simple: Allow the plant to grow in its soil leaving 28-33 shoots per plant as growth outlets.  This keeps the vegitive character of the fruit to a minimum.  Carbohydrates synthesized by photosynthesis have an outlet into the canopy instead of overabundance of energy into the fruit.  Balance is key.  This system is manual labor intensive in order to manage the plant properly.  Our targeted yield when achieving  optimum balance between soil, shoots, leafs, and fruit is 4 tons of harvested fruit per acre on all varietal's that are planted.

Driven daily to exceed his ‘grape expectations,’ Wayne is in constant pursuit of the most state-of-the art growing techniques.  Our wines show the hard work that has gone into controlling our plants integrity and achieving balance.  Hence, our end result is premium, fruit forward, balanced wines that express the unique chacteristics of the terroir from Melrose Vineyards.

Meeting the Demand

Since our first harvest in 1999, Melrose Vineyards has built a reputation for providing fruit to numerous prestigious Oregon wineries throughout the state -- even with the growth of increased acreage. The fruit is sold by long term contracts that have evolved into long term relationships within the Oregon Grape industry.

The Parkers have worked hard to deliver integrity and honesty within these relationships.
